In a landmark moment for child participation and leadership in governance, Marinhel, 16 years old, Educo Philippines’ very own Child Representative, has officially taken her oath as the Child Basic Sector Representative to the National Anti-Poverty Commission (NAPC).

This milestone appointment not only highlights Marinhel’s personal commitment to advocating for children’s rights but also marks a significant step forward in amplifying children’s voices in national policymaking spaces.

Educo Philippines proudly celebrates Marinhel’s courage, leadership, and passion for creating lasting change for Filipino children. Her appointment underscores the power and potential of children to be strategic and meaningful contributors to society, particularly in shaping policies that directly impact their lives and the lives of other marginalized sectors.

Reflecting on her appointment, Marinhel shared that she feels deeply honored and proud to be chosen for such an important role. While she admitted to feeling nervous about the responsibility, her excitement and determination to contribute positively to the council far outweigh any fears.

She also extended her heartfelt appreciation to Educo Philippines.

“Thank you, Educo, for trusting me to represent the organization at the national level. You’ve empowered me to believe in my capabilities and stand up for children’s rights. The experiences and training I gained through Educo molded me into the leader I am today,” Marinhel said.

To her fellow children, Marinhel offered encouragement and inspiration. She hopes that her “journey can show others that we, as children, are fully capable of leading and making a difference in our communities. Leadership starts when we recognize our own potential and step up to be part of meaningful change.”

Looking ahead as NAPC’s newest child sector representative, Marinhel expressed her hopes for her term. “Since NAPC is a policymaking body, I look forward to working with the council to craft policies that uplift children’s lives and contribute to our shared goal of ending poverty in the Philippines,” Marinhel continued.

Educo Philippines remains committed to empowering children like Marinhel—young leaders who speak with purpose, lead with integrity, and help shape a future that upholds the rights and dignity of every child.
